Understanding copyright and fair use is crucial for educators, particularly when designing educational resources and assisting students in producing original work. While fair use permits the restricted use of copyrighted materials for purposes like teaching, criticism, or research, copyright protects the original creators of content. Educators must find a balance between upholding the rights of creators and giving students access to materials that advance their education. I would make sure that any copyrighted material I used while creating educational materials was either properly licensed or fell under fair use. Teaching students how to properly credit sources, use licensed content, and comprehend fair use guidelines is essential for their projects. I've just developed a deeper comprehension of how transformative usage plays a key role in determining fair use, especially when it adds new meaning or purpose to original work.
One technology implementation issue that stands out is academic dishonesty, which becomes more prevalent with increased access to digital tools and online resources. To address this in my future classroom, I would make it known to my students that academic dishonesty is not tolerated in any way and can lead to serious academic consequences. Academic dishonesty can cause distrust between the teacher and the student and can lead the teacher to enforce stricter rules. I would educate my students about academic integrity by incorporating lessons on plagiarism and proper citation and help them understand why honesty in their work is crucial. When a student engages in cheating or plagiarism, it affects the way they know the material and can lead to gaps, making them not fully understand the material. As a teacher, I would design assignments to promote critical thinking and personal reflection, making it harder for students to cheat by requiring unique, individualized responses. Fostering a classroom of trust and open communication can decrease dishonesty, and students feel more confident to seek help when they are confused instead of cheating. My main goal as a teacher would be to create an environment where academic honesty is prioritized and reinforced.
The skills I learned from the most recent Newsletter design were learning how to navigate Microsoft Word and Canva. Another thing I learned was having to use my own creativity on how my classroom would be using technology efficiently. The main things I learned from creating a classroom newsletter were lessons about communication, organization, and engagement. These skills will help me in my future career because they made me realize the importance of regularly sending newsletters, as it help establish reliable communication with parents and build a sense of community in the classroom. Down below is a screenshot of my newsletter.
